Navigating Transition

The Lord directs the steps of the godly, He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 37:23

Transition def: the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another.

Life is always moving forward, and change is inevitable. When we are not evolving, we become a disadvantage to ourselves and those around us, like water that is stagnant, and begin to stink. Therefore, there is a necessity for God to shift us from time to time because remaining in the same position, we become complacent and we get accustomed to the same patterns of thinking and doing, but when we keep moving forward, we evolve and grow.

Times of transition come with a lot of stretching and uncomfortably, when God calls us higher often times, we have to leave some things behind, things we’ve grown attached to, whether friends, a job, a place, and so on and often when we are trying to navigate the feelings that come with change, we can easily think that God has abandoned us. How do we then navigate times of change? I love this scripture in the Psalms, the Lord directs the steps of the godly, and He takes delight in every detail of their lives. The reality is that God is aware of every move we make because he is the one ordering our steps, when we are faced with times of uncertainty, we must choose to take comfort in the reality that God is the author of our story, therefore if He has begun my book, he will therefore finish it.

Whatever we go through in life, if viewed from the right perspective, can bring about growth. Growth, unlike change, is optional, we somehow choose whether we want to grow through what we go through or not, and again we grow when we choose how we will view what happens in our lives. God in whatever we go through invites us to have a heavenly perspective, He says I know transition is uncomfortable and confusing, but take heart, for I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope. Whenever God wants to elevate us, there’s always going to be a purging we must go through where some things must be left behind. When you focus more on the discomfort of your circumstances, you forfeit the lessons that God could be trying to teach you. So, in moments of transition, in the time where you have to wait for God to move you and work things on your behalf, you need to be still, sit and ponder what could God be showing me at this moment and how can I partner with Him, what part can I play.

God doesn’t allow us to remain in one state, both spiritually and physically, He is always moving us from one degree of glory to another, and He does this by allowing circumstances to shake us, the minute we start becoming too comfortable it’s often time to arise.

So, what can I practically do when I go through the groans of change and transition, I love the scripture in 1 Kings 19, where Elijah had his moment of bringing fire from heaven, and yet in verses later He is on the run because sometimes God will transition us even when we think we are at an all-time high in our game. God knows our destination, He sees a bigger picture than we’ll ever see for ourselves, Isaiah 55:9. He is the one who knows our future, and our destinies, and in those moments we need to trust that He knows what He’s doing, we need to feed ourselves with His truth, feed ourselves with His perspective and walk in the steps He orders even when they lead us through a journey in the wilderness.

Prayer!

Father, thank you for elevation because elevation allows me to experience new dimensions of your love and provision. I pray that you would grant me the grace to transition well, to look to you for help, to know and understand that my worth comes from who you are and whom you have declared that I am not what I have or what I do. I pray that I would consistently fix my eyes on you as I navigate change, the author and finisher of my faith, I pray that you would grant me the freedom to let go and fully trust you as the driver of my journey and that I would cherish and treasure the lessons this journey is teaching me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
