Be acquainted with what matters most: Lessons from the Life of Jesus

Updated: Nov 4, 2024

Jesus was strategic with his movements, his words, and the company he kept. Though fully God, having the ability to be everywhere and do whatever He wants. He learned the necessity of self-control and self-discipline. He knew when to step out and when to refrain. I believe we have entered such a pivotal time as the church where there is a need to know and pursue what really matters, the Bible talks about the sons of Issachar who understood the times, enabling them to know what Israel ought to do & the decision they ought to take (1 Chronicles 12:32).

When we live in pursuit and awareness of the perfect timing of God, we fit perfectly into God’s eternal agenda. In John 7, Jesus responds to His brothers “My time has not yet come” This He said when his brothers pressured Him to reveal himself to the crowd to show them that He could perform miracles, but because of Jesus’s awareness of the Father’s will and ever pursuit of his timing, knowing that his identity and approval is not derived from what people can see in his life, but that his goal was to do and complete Gods agenda for His life. He, therefore, refrained from conforming to the pressure to reveal and do anything that has not been ordained by the Father at that particular time.

A lot of things in the world are built to gain your attention, to gain control over your mind, affections, patterns, and decisions, shifting your focus to what is temporary and fleeting, distracting you from what really matters, but life is more than what this world can offer. The Bible says life is more than food and your body more than clothing. (Luke 12:23) is a lesson Jesus is introducing that Hey! something greater than what is physical is here, when you go verses down you will see Jesus introducing the most important thing and that is seeking the kingdom of heaven first above everything. A lot gets presented in our lives for us to engage in, we need to ask ourselves this question, does it really matter? The beauty of seeking God's Kingdom above everything is that everything else loses its control over you as Jesus takes the wheel, enabling you to live with a clear mind and make decisions that are not control and fear-driven. As you pursue the worship of God, you begin to see all these other things being added as you journey along, and the beauty of receiving from a place of rest is that receiving from God in His perfect timing enables you to become a partner with God working alongside Him and as He is glorified through your life, you yourself share in that glory. Someone once said, the presence of God in your life, amplifies you, and I believe that to be true.

We don’t have to be everything and everywhere, there are people, places, and conversations that are good, but not beneficial to our walk with God and our calling in life, and they have the potential to cripple what God is doing in our life. Everything is good, but not everything is beneficial, you want to engage your energy in places that fit in divine steps. It is through discerning the will of God in your life in the season that enables you to perceive what needs your attention and what doesn’t. Don’t throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you (Matthew 7:6), you don’t have to comment on everything, you don’t have to attend every event there is, you don’t have to have a million friends, sometimes we want to touch everything in order to feel like we are moving towards something significant but Jesus understood that life is about doing the will of God even if it means other things pass you by. You just need to be where God wants you to be when He wants you to be there, and one day you will get to realize though sometimes if felt like you are missing out, you were part of something supernatural that God was doing on the earth.

The resources of God are bent towards the steps he has ordered. Pastor Touré Roberts

Prayer

Father thank you that through Jesus I am loved and a part of the work you are doing on the earth. I pray that you order my every step as I trust in you. Please open the eyes of my understanding that I don’t have to be doing everything out there to feel important because my worth is found in you and my potential is hidden in the steps you have ordered for my life. I pray that you shield me from relationships, opportunities, and voices that are detrimental to my destiny and I pray God that you would cause all things to work together for my good.
