Stand Still and Possess the Land!

“You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God said to Joshua, be strong and courageous. For you are the one who will lead these people into the land I promised them. Joshua 1.6

You need to be strong and courageous because God has gone ahead of you. When we walk through the things God has called us we usually think God is surprised just as we are, when we suddenly face adversity and are intimidated by what we see ahead. We usually think God is also shocked. But this scripture tells us that before we step into anything. God has already gone ahead. He has already gone ahead to scout the land. To remove anything that would otherwise take you out.

In Numbers 12:33 Moses sent out spies to scout out the land God was about to give to the Israelites. God had already proclaimed that the land they were entering was their possession. Victory was already settled. When the spies came back they came with a negative report. They looked at how big the land is, the people living there and they began having an imposter syndrome. At that moment they forgot who they were walking with. They started relying on their own abilities. They forgot that Jesus is the author and finisher of their faith, the one who initiates and brings to completion what he started. They looked at how insignificant their weapons were, their physical strength. They failed to remember that it was God who took them out of Egypt with His strong hand. It was God who began a good work in them.

Now the sending of spies ahead is also a depiction of what God does for us as his children he goes ahead and scouts the land. He evaluates the land, while we are waiting. He isn’t unaware of the giants in the Land. He isn’t intimidated by them, He knows they are there. He commissions you today with confidence because he is not trusting in your own abilities when he calls you to take possession, but rather he is trusting in the word he has spoken. You are the one i have chosen! Be strong and courageous. I have placed my word in you, that word that is sharper than the double-edged sword, that word that breaks the Cedars of Lebanon, even the mighty cedars Psalm 29:5, fall by the force of my word. My word has gone ahead of you as a hammer that breaks the strongest of rocks, Jeremiah 23:29. God is trusting in the fact that he will help you to conquer what will come ahead. He goes ahead to level the way.

We also notice that when God goes ahead he removes some things and leaves others out. He doesn’t remove every hindrance instead he commissions you with the power to fight, He told Joshua, to study this book of instruction day and night because He knew that some giants would be fought by what God has stored inside Joshua. The Bib says God's divine power, has given us everything we need pertaining to life and Godliness, this comes through the knowledge of Him. 2 Peter 1:3.

That is why it is important to fill our lives constantly and pursue knowledge of God so that when giants show up in the way we can cling to what we know about God rather than what we see.

That is what happens when we allow God to take us through seasons of waiting. While we are in the waiting season. God prepares us in order to be fit to handle the challenges that will come ahead. You need to be assured that God has gone ahead of you. Not only that He goes behind you, to teach you exactly which step to take. He has seen this day. He has made provisions for it. God has been in your future and he has made provisions for it. We need not to be scared of the giants that live in the land. For greater is he who is within you than He who is in the world.

If you agree with God just like Joshua did. Be courageous and walk and take possession of what God is calling you into. You will finish strong. But if you shrink back like some of the spies that came back fearful. Will you be able to win? We are not amongst those who shrink back and are destroyed, but we are those who persevere and receive what God has promised.

Father thank for your word, it is a lamp unto my feel. Thank you that in you, in Christ Jesus I can do all things. Thank you that your ways are higher than my ways, your thoughts higher than mine. If I had relied on my own ways I would have SLIPPED and given up a long time ago, but your word has held me securely. Truly you are a strong tower, the righteous run to you and are safe.
